I've done this oldie character concept art in 2018 and it was on my Artstation before. On one of the portfolio reviews I was advised to remove it from my portfolio, something about design being meaningless and not well performed. And I did remove it.
And almost 10 years later, you know what? I think that removing it was a mistake. Back when I made it, I was already working in games, it was somewhat intense, but still I found time in between working and life to spend it on a character concept for myself and only myself. I didn't get much fantasy themed character tasks at work but really wanted to explore DnD-like worlds and I did with this one. I also think it wasn't a bad job for a junior.
So today, I just want to republish it as a reclamation of my inspiration and curiosity and as a reminder that I'm making art because I love doing it. Is this character concept perfect? No. But it was one of the pieces that attracted recruiters and clients, and most importantly, a piece that I made for my own enjoyment. Our imperfect works are the root of growth, and we, artists, should be more respectful to our own learning.
Cheers!
